Top 5* GREATEST Portable Games I’ve Ever Played, and an article on POKEMON!

25 08 2009

I decided to do more top 3 or 5 or 10 lists because of a previous comment, someone requesting more ‘top’ lists. So, greatest portable games. I own a GBA, a GBAsp (because my GBA is broken.), a DS, and a PSP. I find myself playing GBA and GBC/GB games more than I play my DS or my GCN or my wii (which, isn’t really worth the 250. More like, worth… 50 or less.). So here’s my top 5 greatest portable games. Ever. Yeah.

Number five is… Mario World (gba)- I bought my gba around 6 or 7 months after they were released. One of the BEST purchases ever made. And one of the BEST purchase I made FOR the gba, was mario world. Yeah, mario world. Its a remake of the classic SNES game, and is a simple platformer. That was awesome. Its pretty hard to explain its awesomeness.. Its strange.

Number four is.. Mario 64 DS – Mario World was that good Mario Port, ported from SNES. So, step above the GBA, you get the ds. Step above the SNES, you get the n64. So, of course, Mario 64 DS came. Because that game is awesomely awesome. The game that popularized the 3d platformer genre, and the game that everyone has. My only complaint is that they didn’t impliment a control stick in the ds. It makes me :(

Number three is.. Mario And Luigi Superstar Saga! I don’t remember when or where I got this game, but I do KNOW its AWESOME. This game is huge. Really. ITS HUGE! I’ve never actually beat this game, but my most recent try has been this week and the weeks before. And yesterday I gave up because joke’s end is SO cheap. (joke’s end is also the level BEFORE the last, so HA!) The only bad thing about this game is when you are not battling a boss. Then its borrinng (another reason why I quit joke’s end, because that boss there takes FOREVER to get to.)!

Number three is.. Space Invaders Extreme! Really, the number three next to this is not a mistake. Its tied with Mario & Luigi. They are both equally awesome. How can you take a simple, done over and over and over and over (copy & paste for 10 seconds.) and make it feel new, and new, and.. Yeah. Copy and paste again. Well, somehow Space Invaders Extreme manages this; an EXTREME game, and the best space invaders remake I have ever seen. Brilliant.

The (forgotten) number threes are:
Super Monkey Ball- The only sega game I have liked. How can you NOT like monkey’s rolling around in one of those hamster wheel things. Too bad I lost it! HOW COULD I??? (I lost it around a year after I got it, hasn’t showed up in 6+ years ((don’t remember when I got it, and I moved recently… Probably won’t find it anytime soon.)) so I don’t have much to say about it.)

Yoshi’s Island- RUFFLES! That’s all yoshi says. He really likes potato chips. And I really like this game. Another SNES port, and amazing graphics. Too bad we haven’t had any more yoshi like this. (yoshi’s island ds was good but didn’t compare to this.) HOW COULD I LOSE THIS????????? ROAR!

Number One is.. Pokemon SILVER. (obviously.) Pokemon silver is the best pokemon game. Hands down. I’ll talk more about why in the second part of this, but its surely the best. Pokemon is one of those games that idiots call ’stupid.’. Then you just ask the idiots if they have PLAYED pokemon, and what’s their answer? ‘No, but its still stupid.’. I hate those people. You also see this with Zelda, Kirby, and you have the complete TOTAL n00bs who haven’t even HEARD of Zelda and Kirby and Metroid. (If they grew up/are growing up in an awful world with horrible living standards, like bad water and no food, that’s perfectly fine and they are not a n00b.) I really need to have a rant about all the modern day ‘gamers’ sometime soon.. But anyways, best game. Ever. For portable systems. YEAH!

Now, to part two. Now, as I explained above, Gold And Silver are awesome. REALLY awesome. Different games than Red and Blue. But all the other pokemon games feel the same as red and blue. I feel I’m playing the EXACT. GAME. OVER and OVER AGAIN! Will I buy any more pokemon games? Nope. Not unless they are new. I already have all of them, and I have lets see… 6 copies of red and blue, and one copy of gold and silver. Add something new. (the next pokemon game I’m getting? Pokemon stadium. Completely strategy based because you have no idea what you are up against, and its COMPLETE battling. Not the stupid stuff we hate.)

Thats all for now!

First N64 Review: Glover

18 08 2009

Glover. I don’t really have much to say about this one. You control a glove… And you have to find bouncy balls. And then get them to the exit using various powerups, such as bouncing it, throwing it, or slapping it. Or you can use your magical glove magic to change it to a different ball, such as a rock (which happens to break at a tiny touch) a bowling ball, a metal ball or the normal bouncy ball. So, yeah.. Onto the review!

Graphics: These graphics are decent/good. They aren’t PERFECT, of course, or even great. They are kinda in that category thats slightly above ‘good enough.’. But, sadly, the backgrounds couldn’t follow the standards everything else set (wait, sadly?). Did the game creators know that people would notice if they didn’t put backgrounds in, and just a orange background everywhere? I don’t think so, because that’s what they did. The effects didn’t follow the standard of the background, but didn’t follow the standards of everything else. They were a bit under ‘good enough’ and not good enough for this game. Overall, 6/10. WHY HAVE A COMPLETELY ORANGE BACKGROUND??

Sound: The sound was slightly better than the graphics that were slightly better than good enough. In this game, good enough was actually quite above good enough, so the sound was pretty good. No. Not sound. Music… Sound was like the orange background. Let’s put sound effects of some really fat dude saying ‘Uguhghghg’ at the top of his lungs as all the noises a CUTE LITTLE character makes. And see if people care. And create good enough (only good enough is actually quite above good enough in this game, so slightly lower than good enough) sound effects than everything else. So.. If you get what I’m saying, 7.5/10

Gameplay: ROAARRRR. I think I explained it a bunch above, but pretty much you move the glove around in a 3d platformer. I’ll list the cons: Bad physics. CHEAP gameplay. Bad physics. Bouncing that is a bit off in some parts. Bad water physics. Cheap gameplay. Bad physics. Annoying level design in everything accept the first four levels (which are perfect and have none of the next thing), one trick ponies, minigames that you NEED to beat to pass the level (also not in levels 1-4).. And much much more! What’s up with the developer, and the whole ‘hope people won’t notice’?? Well, I think I did notice. I noticed that they thought they could be lazy, not finish the game accept for the first few levels, create a bunch of 5-minute made crap levels, and release it. The game also has funny bugs. For example, the one you win when you clear a level 100%. A star magically appears instead of the level marker on the door. And you can jump through this star. They were too lazy to make the star solid?? Overall, you can probably guess that the first four levels save this from a 2. 3/10

Replay Value- This game has a lot of levels, but its just plain not fun after you beat the first four. Also, once you beat all the levels (if you REALLY want to.) then you probably won’t feel like coming back again. No two player, nothing extra. At all. 4/10

Overall- The first four levels were pure genius. Then whoever made the game just got lazy. Overall, 5.5/10. Not worth the 5 bucks I paid for it. But, its worth two bucks just for the first four levels.

Hope you enjoyed this review. Hopefully, some more positive reviews will come in the future, but maybe not. Well, actually, they will because beetle adventure racing definitely does not deserve anything this low.

Nintendo 64. Yay.

18 08 2009

My nintendo 64 FINALLY came. It doesn’t work on my fancy flat screen, but it does work on my not-so fancy but good tv. Yeah, its awesome. Here’s the full review.

Controller: AWESOME controller, that is more unique and clever and a good idea than the wii remote. (that’s not really saying anything though, so..) The controller has three arms, one with the dpad, one with the control stick, and one with all your buttons. You normaly hold the later two arms. The controller kinda cramps your fingers after awhile though, but its the best controller I’ve used.

..
..
..
Well, its kinda hard to give a review on a console, accept for its controller. It doesn’t matter how awesome the console is, but how awesome the games are. So, I’ll let you know about that in a while.

Number one monkey game

18 08 2009

Donkey Kong Country. Do I need to explain this? Oh, I think I already did a long while of posts back. Oh well.

My Top 3 FAVORITE Monkey Games (with more monkey!)

16 08 2009

Note: before this starts, I want to say this:
WE DO NOT NEED OR WANT ANOTHER MONKEY. AS YOU WILL SEE ON THIS LIST, ONE MONKEY AND HIS PALS DOMINATE GAMING. WE DON’T WANT THIS MONKEY TO GO, AND WE COULD REALLY CARE LESS ABOUT ANY OTHER GAMING MONKEYS.
And-
I have not played very many n64 games (but hopefully that will change!) so don’t be surprised if your FAVORITE monkey games from the Nintendo 64 aren’t on here (maybe I’ll update this list later on.)

Starting at number 3..
Donkey Kong (arcade).
You rarely see anybody or any store with this game. That’s because it costs a good 2000$ on ebay, and almost all arcades that have classic games are gone now (you can still find arcades in theme parks, but without this and good old titles like Pacman or Galaga, ((and OF COURSE Donkey Kong)) they just aren’t the same ). But that doesn’t mean donkey kong is bad. Donkey Kong is what started nintendo’s venture into gaming (unless, of course, you count popeye, and of course, the whole legal system didn’t work well with them doing that..). If you had never heard of donkey kong, it would be pretty hard for someone to explain it to you- but of course, over 90% of the world knows about donkey kong (just an estimate from me. :P ) so that won’t be an issue. This classic game introduced the basics for mario- an italian person who uh.. has had over 20 jobs. Let’s count a few off. Princess’s servent, Punching Bag, Referee (boxing), Referee (tennis), professional tennis player, professional go kart racer.. But even before all that, he was a construction worker (maybe.). So you’re working at this construction zone, and this giant 20 foot tall ape storms in, takes some random princess-ey person, and jumps to the top of the building. Jumps. A 20 foot ape. So the building gets a bit messed up, which makes it a bit easier for ‘jumpman’, surprisingly. A few slanted ramps with ladders to climb and the gigantic ape hurling all the barrels he’s got at you (which, is probably infinite.) while you must try to get to the top of the building and rescue that- that- what’s her name? I forgot.. She’s too boring (good thing Toadstool/Peach replaced her.). So you climb to the top, jumping over fire, barrels, monsters and STUFF to get to your ‘princess’ (let’s refer to her as that from now on.). Now, there are 3 levels- The normal one, one with springs bouncing, and a boss. You ‘kill’ him when he falls off the building, but beauty didn’t actually kill the beast, because he jumps right up, grabs her, and you start this cycle of completing levels and- oh, its a new level. The incredibly simply complex paradoxical fourth level- and then everything repeats. Over and over. Then you lose at level 22 no matter what, so you pretty much YOU”RE WINNER!. Either way, DK is one game that GREATLY affected humankind- imagine a world without him- that means no nintendo in the gaming industry, no mario, no kirby, no pokemon.. Yeah.

Coming in at number 2..
Donkey Konga!
You buy the game.
It costs money.
More.
More money.
More money for the game.
You open game.
You take drum.
You take game.
You plug drum to gamecube.
You play game.
Any guesses? Oh right, I already told you its donkey konga. You play.. The bongo drums?!?!?!?!?!!??!?!?!? In a ridiculous but fun game, it doesn’t really matter, and when you’ve got the biggest variety of songs ranging from Bingo (yeah, the public domain one, about the farmer and the dog?!?!?!) to We Will Rock You by Queen. Wow. Quite a difference there. Now, the bongos are pretty simple- 2 little pads. One for red, one for yellow, both for purple, and you clap for blue. Simple, but complicated. It seems to run in the family of DK games. Three difficulties, lots of monkeys, minigames.. Can you TOP this? Well, you can, but I’ll save that for number one. This game isn’t really very in depth, so I don’t really have much to say about it that I didn’t already say…

Number one.
One.

Number one is..

Is..
Is..

Well, number one will be announced next. I know what it is, you might know what it is- but I’m done for now. BYEZ!

Birthday Blog!

14 08 2009

I just noticed- this blog turns one in.. 6 days! Yay, how its grown from 10-15 uniques to 20-50.
Not really very good, but meh..
To CELELBRATE, hopefully my n64 will be in by then. Hopefully. Maybe. And then I’ll give some awesome reviews.

Reviews, reviews, and reviews coming in the next week or so (maybe 2 weeks)

14 08 2009

The puzzling riddle.. Nobody figured it out. I guess it wasn’t obvious enough, but, if you counted there were 64 letters in every sentence, 64 words in the whole thing. That narrows it down to two things: a C64 or a N64.. And its an n64. I ordered a nintendo 64 online, and have a whole bunch of games coming too. So you can be expecting reviews, reviews, and more reviews. But you know how if something’s coming, and you want it and expect it, you get bored easily? I’m slightly bored, so I’ll hold a tiny mini contest. Whoever can make the best game (it doesn’t have to be made for this, doesn’t have to be made in this time period, you can submit games you’ve already finished.) gets their website advertised in that little banner thingy at the top.
HERE is what I am looking for:
A game that works on a windows xp that is not extremely violent.
And you get bonus points if it has something to do with a n64. Because they are cool.
And it must be made by you for you to have your site advertised.

So that’s pretty much it. A poll here for which game of THESE you would like to see me review (I will eventually get all the ones on that poll, but if I bought EVERY SINGLE n64 game, it would be over 500 dollars. ouch.)

11 08 2009

Ugg, wordpress has such a tendancy to delete posts.

I really don’t feel like re-writing a full length post (it also deleted all the drafts I saved)

So let’s simplify what I said: nobody’s commenting except one person, I don’t want to waste my efforts here, comment away if you read this blog, stop spamming.

New games will come, not my usual stuff (good thing)

Aaannnndd there’s what wordpress deleted in a nutshell.

Softpedia. Yay.?.

7 08 2009

I got featured on softpedia! My game, banana madness, was, at least. Here’s what they had to say:
Banana Madness! description

Check out a fun to play arcade game where you have to survive for as long as you can.

You are a box that throws bananas
at the evil slime creatures! The bananas fall and turn into banana peels, which the evil slime creatures can slip on! Run for as long as you can so that you can get a high score.

You move around with the arrow keys, shoot forwards with space, and shoot backwards with c. Press esc to go to the menu, F9 to take a screenshot, F4 for fullscreen/windows toggle, and click the menu buttons to get them to work.

I’m not exactly sure if this is a GOOD thing, since I haven’t heard many good things about softpedia. They posted my ‘website’ but when I clicked on it, it linked directly to the softpedia homepage when there was a link to this site in the game. People say that they are awful and take low quality screenshots (not sure about that first one, but the second one- yeah, its true.)

You can find it HERE.

Or, if you want to play the game instead of the awful beta version that I put in a contest, you can find it HERE.

Or, HERE.

But, I’m not quite sure if this IS a good thing, please vote in this poll.
