Super Smash Brothers Brawl, commonly abbreviated ‘SSBB’ was announced a few years back by nintendo at E3. After that, it was eagerly awaited by millions of fans, but was it worth the wait? Would it have been better for those fans to just stick with melee? Some people wondered that, and after getting the actual game- they realized it WAS worth the wait, except for those stupid people who gave the game a one on amazon, (seen HERE) whose reviews are actually FUNNY to read (on the most part). So, did SSBB live up to its hype? Read the review to find out!
Graphics: If you’ve ever played a wii game, you’d notice the fact that almost everything has low detail. Nintendo’s been lowest on the graphics scale for a while now, so its nothing new. If you’re expecting ps3 quality graphics, you’re in for a big surprise, but these graphics are some of the best graphics I’ve EVER seen on the wii! The effects were pretty good, and the characters were highly detailed, along with the backgrounds, tiles and pretty much everything else. For the wii, these graphics were great! The only thing is, the characters like kirby and pikachu look pretty much the same as in melee. You can barely tell a difference. But the rest of the graphics are awesome anyways, so 9/10.
Sound: There’s no way to describe the music in this game. Its just perfect. You’ll have to play it yourself just to see how good it is. Each stage has 3-5 music tracks, and there are at least 10 tracks not in the stages. In all, there’s at least 100 tracks, so its a wide variety of remixes from your favorite games and new songs, composed for SSBB. The sound effects themselves were perfect, and at the perfect volume, so it didn’t disturb the music. This is probably the best sound in ANY wii game. 10/10
Gameplay: Super Smash Bros is a strange kind of fighter. You do not have health, for one, so its not street fighter and all those games all over again. In the SSB games, you play as a nintendo character against other nintendo charaters. You have a percentage meter, which starts at 0%. You gain percent from taking hits, and get it back to 0 with items (which can ((and should)) be easily turned off) and the higher your percent, the further you fly when you get hit. To win, you have to knock your opponent off the stage as many times as you can, depending on the mode. so SSBB requires alot of strategy too. Will you be cheap? Will you find the perfect strategy for defeating those puny little kirbys? Or will you run away while your opponents duke it out between themselves, and come in at the end to finish it off? To make it even more challenging (*cough* and cheap *cough*) there are items like pokeballs (which send out pokemon to attack you) and smash balls (which characters attack, and once it is killed, gives the charcter who delivered the final blow a super-owning attack that is almost always a 1 hit KO). I HIGHLY suggest turning items off. That’s pretty much how you play, but its much more complex than it sounds. It is incredibly fun to play alone, but the best game on the wii if you have friends to play against. 9/10
Replay Value: The game has these modes: Classic, where you fight opponents to move on to the next opponent, finally making it to the end boss (1player) Event, where you try to complete a certain task in over 20 events (1-2players), Adventure, where you navigate different levels, killing enemies along the way, trying to save the world from an evil subspace bomb, eventually making it to the boss of all bosses. Finally, there is Brawl. If you have friends, this is probably what you’ll do 99% of the time. Its just a normal fight, nothing special, but somehow, due to the magic of SSBB, it NEVER gets boring. While this game will only take about half a week to unlock everything, Brawl mode keeps it going. The fun never stops, unless you have no friends. 8/10
Overall: With friends: 9/10, the best game on the wii for sure. You are CRAZY if you don’t already own it.
Without friends: 8/10, a great game that will for-sure keep you entertained for a while, and should definitely be in your collection of wii games.
I’m happy to say it DID live up to its hype.
