I rock with a capital I. (literally..)

31 10 2008

Go to google pagerank. Look at any GM site (other than yoyo.)

And look at their pagerank. 1, 2, 3, 0, N/A, right? RIGHT? iWannaplay, 64 digits.. Both a page rank of 3. Not to brag but… Look at yours truly. Pagerank… Not 1. Not 2. Not 3… It’s 4. A page rank of four, meaning I’m “better” than iWannaplay and 64 digits. (not that I am…)

You don’t believe me? Halloween prank, you say? This is NO HALLOWEEN PRANK. This is the start of a blog with 200+ unique visitors a day. (no, not for a long, long, long, long time though..) So you get the message. You STILL don’t believe me, though, I’m guessing. Cold, hard proof.

What now?

If you want to know HOW this is possible, PM me (bugaham games…) on the GMC. I will respond ASAP.

I’ll be glad to help.

Interview with one of the best (if not THE best) freeware game makers ever.

28 10 2008

AKA 2d cube. I interviewed 2d cube and here it is:
Where did you get the idea for the Karoshi series?
I think i read about the Flash game “5 minutes to kill yourself”, and a few days later played the insanely cruel platformer “I Wanna Be The Guy” and it just clicked in my head.
Sometimes you just need to get the right inspiration, add a bit of your own to it and there you are..!

Did you ever think Karoshi would become so popular?
No, I didn’t. I was working on a couple ideas at the time, trying to find something that would top Frozzd. I had just won the YoYoGames competiton and wanted to make something that would impress people yet again.

The Karoshi game started as just a funny idea and that was all it was. I put little effort into the graphics (the main character was made in a couple minutes, and funny enough it’s still the same throughout the series), and I just had fun making the game.

So the first game did pretty well but I thought there wasn’t really room for a sequel. Of course I was wrong!

Do you have any plans for a sequel to Karoshi? (we hope…)
Yep I do. It’s a very fun game to work on because code-wise it’s not very complex but game design-wise very challenging and interesting. Besides that I know many people will try it and that gives me a great feeling. I hope Karoshi 3 will surprise people.

Are you pleased with what you have done with Karoshi?
Yes very much. The games aren’t always perfect but overall I’m very happy. I also like Karoshi Factory very much, and the Flash version isn’t too bad either. These last 2 however don’t introduce as much new ideas. For the Flash version it was difficult to do this and Karoshi Factory was made in just a few days.

How long did it take to make the Karoshi games?
The first one took 2 months (though because of a break only 5 weeks). The second one took about the same time, but I worked much harder!
Karoshi Factory took 5 days and the Flash version took about 4 weeks, after which development dragged on a bit for another month.

Will wubbly ever make a return?
I really like the core gameplay in the first Wubly, so I want to do something with that again, some day. Though, it may get a different name!

Are you planning to enter the 4th yoyogames competition?
Hmmm, maybe I’ll make something small, just for fun. I’m not planning to win anything though.

How do you enjoy your internship at Q-Games?
A lot! It’s a very unique company and I really have an influence on the game we’re working on. I’m curious to see how people will like it.
Besides that I love Japan as well, which is where the company’s located.

Right when you started using GM, did you think you would become this amazing at making games?
Thanks! Don’t know if I’m “amazing” but it’s going well, yeah. I never really thought so much about it when I just started.
I was just amazed I could make something and it worked. Even though it was crappy.

Do you have any plans for going commercial with your games?
I already do. The Flash version of Karoshi made me a nice amount, and I want to do more like that in the future.
As for actually selling games, maybe that’ll happen sometime but no plans yet.

Thanks for the interview, do you have anything else to say?
I hope it was an interesting read. Please visit my website www.venbrux.com if you want to see my games!

You heard him, visit www.venbrux.com, his games are commercial quality.

So that brings us to this week’s poll of the week.

Hope you enjoyed the interview,

The poll of the week

22 10 2008

I know I normally don’t post about politics but here in the US, we are getting ready to vote. It’ll be cool to find the GMU’s opinion on who the next leader should be.

OK, now on to more important things..
What is 4×2

Like…..

Everyone knows Yoyo games. About 30% of them hate it. About 70% like it. (no, we are not doing a poll for this, now too BAD!!!) But did you know yoyo has a new SITE DESIGN? (cough cough probably cough cough) it got rid of the main problems on yoyo games (6 star rating system, more games on the front page, new colors.) So visit yoyo. Nice new design. Anyways, I’ve had a lot to work on (no, there are no amazing puzzle games or cool tower defenses being made by me.) so.. I hope to get rid of Bugaham Insider since its boring to blog there. And maybe add something else in its place.. Anyways, be looking for some cool things coming. (no, not an amazing puzzle game or a cool tower defense so don’t comment just to ask.)

Nintendo: Today VS Yesterday

17 10 2008

Guess what? I’m comparing Yesterday’s gaming to Today’s. Which is better? I’ve never thought about it. I just play the games…

Graphics: Well.. Yesterday was.. Good. Today is… Better… Its simple really. Technology advanced, making graphics better. SOMETIMES though, its better than today’s.. So I’m splittin’ it.

Yesterday: .2

Today: .8

Sound: Yesterday’s catchy video game tunes were transformed into different music. Different styles. It would’ve been better to stay with yesterday’s sound..

Yesterday: 1.1

Today: .9

Gameplay: Games changed from 2d to 3d. The world of gaming as we knew it changed. For the better or worse? Probably worse. 2d is usually better than 3d (gameplay-wise.) So if today’s graphics were on yesterday’s games, some nice 10/10s on IGN would appear.

Yesterday: 2.1

Today: .9

Replay: Yesterday’s gameplay was what you played over and over. “I gotta beat this level!” and “I did it! Now I wanna show my friend” don’t really exist anymore because people get bored too fast from playing a level they are stuck on (in most games)

Yesterday: 2.8

Today: 1.2

So you see, I miss yesterday’s games. You wonder who else does?

Mario (the 2d ones). LOZ. Metroid. Where are they now? Not in a game for almost a year (or was it 2….) and no games announced. It makes us wonder…

Has nitendo given up? We wonder; today they care about the world’s arm waving madmans. Not caring about their legends. Just trying to cover up all evidence of yesterday. (literally, there is NO GBA SLOT in the new nintendo DS coming, like I mentioned earlier, and I personally like GBA better.)

Take this poll please.

So, are you one for arm waving, or the NES?

Sorry again. I’m an idiot. (I am? That’s what everyone says.)

17 10 2008

Everyone thinks I’m an idiot. I have a few things to say first…

I am NOT making a totally sweet tower defense that takes tons of time away.

I am NOT making a huge halloween minigame collection by Halloween.

I am NOT busy right now..

Anyways… I just noticed: I can post polls. So I felt like making a poll..

Yay. Please do vote. Anyways…. I’m sorry. Look for more posts in teh future!

Sorry that I haven’t posted.

9 10 2008

Yeah. People are using my (well, technically they aren’t just mine.) computers. And my brother MESSED UP the gamemaker computer so the halloween game may be a bit late.. Sorry. Anyways… To cheer you up, a review of ByteAlity tower defense (which is also part of the reason I haven’t been posting….) but first… I will tell you some things about what’s coming in the future. Who likes thanksgiving games? That’s right- nobody. So christmas games from me are coming early- but the bad thing is once every 2 weeks. This is because the games will be a bit better. More interviews hopefully.

Graphics: Actually, the graphics aren’t that great- probably made with the drawing program that comes with game maker. But its the effects that make it good. Look at it- your like “ok, boring graphics.” then your mouse tower kills like 50 things.. BOOOOM. Yep, its decent. And even though the graphics aren’t that great, together they make a somewhat decent style. 9/10.

Sound: As far as I can tell, none. 0/0

Gameplay: Needless to say, ADDICTING. Very fun. Very very fun. Its a bit hard though. You can place weapons to protect your “tower”. You can upgrade these weapons, but it costs money, which is earned by killing enemies. There are many, many weapons. Since its a little hard, 9.5/10

Replay Value: There are tons of levels, and a level builder. It will keep you entertained for a long, long, long time. And the gamer lived happily ever after.. Til he beat it 10 years later… 10/10

Total: 9.5/10 (Award Of The Universe)

Ok, what is award of the universe?

Its the best award a game can get (from me). On a ratio rating, there are awards from me. What’s a ratio rating?

5/10 would be better than 50% of games. 6/10 is better than 60%. 7/10  is better than 70%, and so forth. (note that this isn’t JUST game maker games. Commercial games too.) Its ratio rating is 9/10, better than 90% of games (including commercial games!)  9/10 ratio score and up win the Award Of The Universe. Congrats!

I think I’m going mad.

6 10 2008

I think I’m going mad- anyone agree? With the stress of many many things, it doesn’t help that nintendo is releasing a very bad idea- a NDSi (Nintendo ds 3). They never needed the NDS lite. The original was great- mistake was making the DS lite more vulnerable to damage. The NDSi, the next DS, is supposed to be even smaller. Great. Plus the fact that Guitar Hero On Tour is unable to be played on it. Why? NO GBA SLOT. The only advantage is online- comes with built in online access. But before they begin ripping DS lites of shelves I have one recommendation- BUY A DS LITE IF YOU DON’T HAVE ONE. Nintendo’s riding a deadly roller coaster- they themselves are slowly taking the track off!

Is it just me, or am I really going mad? And is anyone else going mad?

Pumkin Bounce is done!

4 10 2008

The VERY first Halloween game of the month!

Hope you like it!

Would anyone enjoy a GM book by me?

4 10 2008

I may write a GM book. (for beginners, like ages 7-12.) (OR for beginners, only a little bit harder, since its aged to 10-14.) So what do you guys think? Should I write one? And if so, for ages 7-12 or 10-14? If everyone says “yes, I’d buy it” then I will get permission from Mark. But getting published wouldn’t be so easy… I’d probably make it 10$-20$. So what do you guys think?
